Visiting and Traveling to Canada
Most foreign nationals require either an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to travel to Canada.
Only US citizens and US permanent residents (Green Card holders) are exempt from the eTA and TRV requirements.
Canadian citizens (including dual citizens) require a Canadian passport to travel to Canada. Canadian permanent residents require a Permanent Resident Card or Permanent Resident Travel Document to travel by air or sea to Canada.
Unless you are given a stamp for less time by the border services officer when you enter Canada, you are allowed to remain in Canada for up to six months per visit. Once you’re in Canada, you can apply online for a Visitor Record to extend your stay.
