Temporary Measures Available to Ukrainians and their Family Members

(Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel or “CUAET”)


Who:

Ukrainian nations and family members of Ukrainian nationals (of any nationality includes spouse or common-law partner, dependent child, dependent child of spouse or common-law partner, a dependent child of their dependent child)

Last day to apply for a visa under CUAET from outside of Canada

  • Last day to extend or change temporary status in Canada under CUAET – until this day you can apply to extend or change your status in Canada under the special measures

  • Last day for those with a CUAET visa to travel to Canada under the CUAET special measures to be eligible for various supports offered under CUAET

  • ​CUAET holders who arrive by March 31, 2024, will have until June 30, 2024, to apply for transitional financial assistance

  • CUAET holders who arrive by March 31, 2024, will be eligible to stay in temporary accommodations for up to 14 nights, until April 14, 2024.

Last day when Ukrainians and their family members who are in Canada temporarily can benefit from settlement services that are normally reserved for permanent residents of Canada


Until July 15, 2023, Ukrainian nationals and their family members located outside of Canada are eligible to apply for a fee exempt visa to travel to Canada and obtain a fee exempt open work permit, study permit or visitor record to allow them to remain in Canada for up to three (3) years. Ukrainians and their family members who apply before July 15, 2023, will have until March 31, 2024, to travel to Canada to be eligible for the various supports offered under the CUAET.


Ukrainian nationals and their family members who are already in Canada will have until March 31, 2024, to apply to extend their existing permit or to amend their status to a different type of permit to allow them to extend their stay in Canada as a worker, student, or visitor.


Until March 31, 2025, Ukrainians and their family members who are in Canada can access several settlement services to assist them with settling into life in Canada.


The application must be submitted online and must follow IRCC’s specific instructions for inclusion in the program.
